Kosovan Asylum Seeker has Drugs Money Confiscated
On 12th February 2006, following information obtained by a News of the World undercover reporter, Besnik QEMA, was arrested in Mayfair, London by plain clothes Police Officers for supplying a controlled drug and conspiracy to supply forged passports.
A search was carried out at QEMA’s home address in east London. At this address on top of the fridge in the kitchen was £1, 850.
The original drugs were analysed by a government approved forensic laboratory and they tested positive for cocaine. The passport has been verified by H.M. Immigration as a forgery.
On 14th February 2005, QEMA pleaded guilty to the offences. He was sentenced to one year
concurrent for Possession of a Class A controlled drug, three years concurrent for Supply of a Class A controlled drug and eighteen months consecutive for Possession of a false instrument with intent.
On 12th May 2006 a Confiscation Hearing held at Southwark Crown Court. Judge Dodson determined that QEMA had benefited from criminal conduct to the amount of £119,212.90. A Confiscation Order of £70,724.58 was made in the amount of his assets which consisted of money in bank accounts, a motorbike, jewellery and £29,000 of gifts to his family. He was given 1 year to pay or serve a default sentence of 20 months.
