Delivery Driver's Double Deception

A man of Upton Park, East London was employed as a delivery driver at the Hackney branch of a Hire Company. It came to the attention of his employer that a number of customers were reporting fraud on their accounts after using their credit cards in the shop.

This sparked an internal investigation whereby the man was identified as the common denominator in the purchases. The man had been stealing credit card details from the unsuspecting customers, which he then used to purchase a total of ten vehicles, each having a retail value of between £3-6,000. Officers arrested the man at his workplace on the 12th of February 2007 and since this time have uncovered a number of the vehicles.

The man pleaded guilty to fraud on the 02/05/2008 and received a 15 month custodial sentence. RART officers then begun a financial investigation on the man and a confiscation order was successfully obtained at Blackfriars Crown Court for £10,398.15 on the 26/09/2008. The confiscation order was paid in March 2009.

This great result has ensured that the man will not profit from the double deception against his employer and the customers he served and has again proved that crime does not pay.
