Car Clockers Given Confiscation Orders

In May 2008, Brent and Harrow Trading Standards received a complaint regarding the sale of vehicles from Emat and Son Cars in Merrick Road, Southall.

It was alleged that vehicles from this car yard were having their mileage reduced in order to increase the value. This is commonly known as car clocking.

The illegal operation was run by Emat Ghulamhan, aged 25, of Sudbury-On-Thames, Surrey. The vehicles would be taken to Shahi Motors in Hounslow where it was believed the mileage altering took place. Shahi Motors was run by Noor Ahmed Sadiqi, aged 43, of Richmond, Surrey.

On 24th March 2009, search warrants were executed at both business premises as well as at both men's addresses. As a result of the searches, 26 vehicles were identified as having the mileage reduced.

Both Ghulaman and Sadiqi pleaded guilty to offences of conspiracy to defraud and were both sentenced to 27 months imprisonment on 11th December 2009 at Isleworth Crown Court.

London RART carried out a financial investigation on the pair resulting in confiscation orders being made at Isleworth Crown Court on 27th May 2010.

Sadiqi was given an order of £61,694.38 with 28 days to pay or a default sentence of 20 months. Ghulaman was given an order for £62,879.38 with 28 days to pay or a default sentence of 20 months.
