Surveillance Operation led to confiscation orders of £650,000

A surveillance operation conducted by members of Durham Constabulary and the North East RART resulted in the arrest of a well known Darlington man and his business partner for offences of money laundering and the seizure of £507,000 cash from the rear of the Mercedes car they were travelling in.

Following extensive enquires by the North East RART and Durham Police, both men pleaded guilty in October 2005 at Newcastle Crown Court to the offence of Cheating the Public Revenue in the sum of £650,000 and were sentenced to a total of 5 years in prison. Additionally the court determined that the Darlington man should pay a confiscation order of £424,252 and that his business partner should pay a confiscation order of £225,747.
