Assets of £50,000 Confiscated from Owners of Kebab Factory
Following a presentation on the use of the Proceeds of Crime Act at Cleveland Police Headquarters by the North East RART, contact was received from the Foods Standards Department of Middlesbrough Council.
As a result, a financial investigation was conducted by the North East RART into the assets of the two owners of a factory in Middlesbrough who were prosecuted for contravening hygiene regulations whilst manufacturing kebabs for distribution across the country. The investigation involved extensive enquiries throughout the United Kingdom using the new Proceeds of Crime powers. The two men were found guilty of food hygiene offences, of operating an illegal plant and causing obstruction.
Following a confiscation hearing at Teesside Crown Court both defendants were ordered to pay £25,500 each in confiscation orders and fined an additional £50,000.
