Operation Reflex - £238,592 order obtained
As a result of an investigation by officers from
Bradford in connection with Operation Reflex (immigration & sexual offences act) into the actions of Desmond John McAuliffe, who was operating a brothel from premises at Thornhill Place, Bradford, he was arrested in January 2005. As a result, he was successfully prosecuted for offences contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 1956 and was convicted of those offences in June 2005.

In brief he was operating the brothel by using girls of various nationalities but mainly eastern European who had entered the UK illegally or failed to leave when required to do so.
It was established that McAuliffe had not held any legitimate employment for over 20 years. The financial investigation identified assets attributable to him in the form of a substantial amount of cash, the property used to facilitate the operation of the brothel and a further property being the family home to which he held sole title.
On the 27th of February 2006, at a Confiscation Hearing held at the Bradford Crown Court a Confiscation order in the sum of £238,592 was made. The sum of the order included £79,092 cash, £82,000 equity in the brothel premises and £80,000 equity in the family home.
