Smuggling couple hit ‘The Rocks’ - 19 Dec 2008
In November 2005, Stuart Clifford Murthwaite and his common law partner Catherine Ann Gillen were amongst a number of people arrested in a joint operation by the Lancashire Police Serious and Organised Crime Unit and North West Regional Asset Recovery Team following an investigation into the smuggling of wholesale amounts of tobacco products codenamed Operation Vicarage. Judge David Aubrey QC ruled that Young had benefitted by more than £10.5 million through a complex operation of buying and selling luxury vehicles and money laundering. Describing the 32 year old, Judge David Aubrey QC said: "The defendant is the sort of man who cannot lie straight in bed at night.
