Drugs Ringleader Last One To Pay-Up
The finalisation of this Confiscation Hearing was heard at Liverpool Crown Court on the 12th & 13th June, 2008 before His Honour Judge Globe, when the architect of the criminal conspiracy John Arthur Smith was ordered to pay £622,662 within 6 months. Failure to pay would result in a 5 year consecutive prison sentence added to the 13 years he is currently serving. The Judge declared he had benefited from crime in the sum of £748,343.
DCI Mike Jones, Head of the North West Regional Asset Recovery Team said, "Not only are some individuals in the process of selling the family homes to satisfy the orders, but also it will stop the proceeds being reinvested into further drug dealing on Merseyside. Smith’s brother Colin Bernard Smith was shot dead in a Liverpool gym in November, 2007.
Merseyside Police, supported by the North West Regional Asset Recovery Team, will continue to target those involved in drug dealing on Merseyside."
