The Wales Regional Asset Recovery Team has taken John Anthony Thomas, a former police officer, currently living in Bristol back to court to payback the money made from his criminal activities.
John Anthony Thomas, age 38 who had been a serving Dyfed Powys police officer has been ordered to payback £31,654 to be paid within 6 months. Failing this he would receive a default sentence of 18 months. The court determined that John Anthony Thomas had benefited from crime totalling £177,500.
As a result of a criminal investigation carried out by Dyfed Powys police officers into the activities of his wife Julie Ann Thomas (also known as Julie Hyett), it was established that John Anthony Thomas had made several false representations on a mortgage application form.

Thomas had completed the purchase of his property in Bristol at a cost of £200,000 with a mortgage in the sum of £160,000.
He also attempted to obtain a mortgage in the sum of £110,000 from another bank against a property in Burry Port with false representation, however the mortgage was not progressed due to the defendant not responding to the bank correspondence.
In August 2004, Thomas was charged with attempting to obtain a money transfer by deception, and obtaining a money transfer by deception.
For each offence, Thomas was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in September 2005, concurrent suspended for 18 months.
The Police officer was dismissed from his duties with Dyfed Powys Police.
Following his sentence, a confiscation investigation began.
His wife Julie Ann Thomas (also known as Julie Hyett), was found guilty of controlling prostitutes in February 2005. She was also found guilty of mortgage fraud offences in October 2005 at Swansea Crown Court and a Confiscation hearing took place in December 2005. Her benefit figure of £135,000 was agreed with an amount of £49,750.00 ordered to be paid within 6 months. Failing this she would receive a default sentence of 18 months.
